International Women's Day 2016

Please find below the Commission’s briefing for the House of Lords debate on the progress made in the UK in the areas of women’s representation and empowerment 150 years after the 1866 petition to the House of Commons for women’s suffrage.

We have highlighted the Commission’s upcoming Strategic Plan for 2016-19, which sets out our plans to tackle some of the key challenges for women’s representation and empowerment. The briefing focuses on: action on the gender pay gap, pregnancy and maternity discrimination and the progression of women to senior positions at work. We have also set out our concerns in relation to the cross-cutting issue of barriers women face in accessing civil justice.
