Wales Committee advice regarding stronger Welsh accountability for equality and human rights legislation

Jane Hutt, the then Equalities Minister, wrote to the EHRC Wales Committee seeking its advice on the Welsh Government Programme commitment ‘to explore how establishing stronger Welsh accountability for equality and human rights legislation, including enforcement of Wales specific duties, can be achieved.’

The EHRC Wales Committee welcomed the opportunity to provide advice to the Minister. The Committee’s advice paper makes a number of recommendations. Together these recommendations enable the Welsh Government to secure increased accountability for equality and human rights and ensure it has control of this important agenda in Wales – and of the Public Sector Equality Duty in particular. This advice paper was provided to the Welsh Government in November 2012.
