Immigration Bill House of Lords Committee Stage Briefing

The briefing aims to provide an analysis of the equality and human rights implications of measures contained in the Immigration Bill. In practice the compliance with equality and human rights law will depend on how the measures in the Bill, and associated regulations, orders, rules, policies and guidance (still to be devised) are implemented. This analysis highlights areas of potential risk, identifying where the proposed measures would be incompatible with equality or human rights law, in the following areas:

  • Power to remove UK citizenship
  • Removal and enforcement powers
  • Bail
  • Appeal rights
  • Marriage
  • Residential tenancies
  • NHS financial charges
  • Collection, retention and use of biometric personal data
